3 Easy Habits for Marketing Slackers (and Beginners)

Habits for SlackersWe could all use more leads, new prospects and new opportunities to keep our businesses and careers moving forward, right?! If you regularly have that worried feeling in the pit of your stomach that you need more new leads rolling in, that you should be doing more digital and social media marketing, I have three marketing hacks that when practiced consistently, have netted me new clients and new projects immediately.

On the other hand, if you have plenty of prospects and need no help with your marketing, go ahead and move on, nothing to see here. For those of you sticking around, here are the promised tips:

  1. Say thanks at least once per day – If you can find one person to thank personally each day, it’s a great way to stay in touch with them without being salesy. I know it may sound hokey to some, but when you actually take the time each day to write a thank you note, message, or email to a client, vendor, referral partner, colleague, the generosity that you put out returns to you and creates momentum (at the very least) in your business. For example, recently a client I write for referred me to a fellow colleague. Of course I thanked my client for the referral and from that exchange resulted four new projects, literally doubling my business revenue for that month.

  1. Post consistently on two social media pages – I’ll admit, I can be a slacker in this area! But every time I consistently post to social media I get new clients. In order to remain top of mind in your network, your peeps need to hear from you regularly and one of the best ways to do that is to post on your two favorite (read: most effective) social media outlets once per day, at least. Need ideas? Share a great post or article you’ve seen, write a humorous (tasteful) quip, write a one-line summary of what you’re seeing in the marketplace, or offer a quick tip. Above all let it be something useful, even if it’s useful for a chuckle! Let me know and I can help with some more ideas.

  1. Engage with your network daily – Take just 15 minutes per day – set a timer on your phone – to engage with your network meaning visit your favorite social media outlets and read, ‘Like,’ and comment to other’s posts. You’ll also want to respond to comments on your posts. When people reach out to you they want to hear back from you, at least to be acknowledged so don’t leave them hanging. This is also a great way to get and keep conversations going.

Okay, you’ve made it this far, so here’s the deal…make a commitment today to put these 3 tactics to work for you for 30 days and see what happens. Don’t let the time you spent reading this post go to waste, turn it into time spent making money and building your business. Hey, chances are you’re already practicing at least one of them. Add the others and voila, you’re on your way!

Are you ready to commit? Let’s do this thing! I’ll commit to them too and let’s report back in 30 days to share the results. In the meantime, I’ll keep writing these inspiring, helpful posts and if you need any further help with your digital or social media marketing along the way, let me know.
